VECTOR will be one of the exhibitors at City of Vancouver’s Emergency Preparedness Week 2017 (EP Week) launch “In It Together” on Sunday May 7 at Telus World of Science at the east end of False Creek of Vancouver. You’ll find VECTOR and other exhibitors both inside and outside the Science World complex.
Science World will be open free to the public all day!! Exhibits are open from 10:00 am through 6:00 pm.
We join other City of Vancouver programs including Emergency Social Services (ESS), Neighborhood Emergency Assistance Team (NEAT) and staff from the Office of Emergency Management. Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services will have apparatus on display and fire extinguishing demonstrations. Also supporting EP Week are:
- BC Safety Authority
- Canadian Red Cross
- Dream Rider
- E-Comm 911
- EERI UBC Chapter - Shake Table
- FortisBC
- Insurance Bureau of Canada
- Metro Van Transit Police
- Natural Resources Canada
- Ocean Networks Canada
- Public Safety Canada
- Shake Alarm
- ShakeoutBC
- UBC School of Architecture
There’s a lot to see for people of all ages - and of course Telus World of Science is open to all - for free!
VECTOR’s indoor exhibit will feature a self-contained transportable radio station we call a Grab & Go Radio Kit; this 2M / 1.25M / 70cm radio kit incorporates packet data capabilities and redundant power capability. Members will be on hand to provide demonstrations, allow the public to make radio contacts and make out commemorative “QSL” cards (proof of radio contact).
Our outdoor exhibit is our Community Emergency Response Vehicle, a converted 1976 GM “New Look” transit bus that once roamed Vancouver’s streets collecting fares. Inside you’ll now find five operating positions and a plethora of communications and computer equipment to support a mobile command centre. As you can imagine the converted bus is popular with kids and with those who remember riding this particular vintage alike.
It is likely to be a very busy day down at Science World - transit, walking or cycling will get you there with the least hassle.
