Family Day Weekend 2026
A small crew of VECTOR members will be filling in for a local ham at the Our Global Village event on the Family Day Weekend at the Old Hastings Mill Store Museum. The museum is running a community event on February 14 and 15 to celebrate our shared planet and how easy it has become to be in touch.
As Vancouver prepares to welcome the world in 2026, share your love for our “Global Village” that is beautiful Planet Earth! Dress in your national costume, sample “global cookies” and international teas, make a carving from Brazilian soapstone, see a live ham radio demonstration, make a Valentine greeting for the world to be mailed to the United Nations General Assembly Headquarters on international territory, and more!
Free entry for all activities except the soapstone workshop and donations welcome. The museum has a major expense this year as it’s time for regular roof maintenance.
We will be at the museum in Vancouver, where Alma Street meets the Burrard Inlet.
Radio Demonstrations
For long distance communications, we intend to bring an HF and a VHF kit and demonstrate:
- Echolink
- HF voice and Winlink email
- UHF-VHF Winlink
- Radiograms
- UHF-VHF Handheld with Android
- WebSDR display (sound and video)
- APRS maps
In the three-hour window, we could try some Parks on the Air, too. We are pretty new to that, though. Hastings Mill Park is POTA CA-3589.
