The first week of May is Emergency Preparedness Week and serves as a reminder to review emergency plans with your family, double check everything in your emergency kit, and familiarize yourself with what to do in an emergency. The provincial theme this year is “In it Together” focusing on resilience through community connections.
Check out these emergency preparedness resources, and look for ones for your local community:
After any large-scale emergency or disaster, VECTOR encourages members to check-in on their radios on the VE7RVF repeater (channel 1). As practice, we encourage members to do this during emergency alert tests and exercises like the BC Shake-Out. VECTOR’s Emergency Activation Guide is a good resource that members should be familiar with.

World Cup Special Event Station: VB7F - June 11th – July 19th
The 2026 World Cup will be hosted for the first time in 3 countries – Canada, Mexico and the United States. This will involve 16 host cities across North America with Vancouver being one of them. In support of Vancouver as a host city, a special event station Amateur Radio call sign has been assigned to the Vancouver Host City Radio Team and will be active June 11th through July 19th.
The local group is currently looking for operators with access to transmitters within BC to help activate the VB7F callsign for much of the tournament period. It is anticipated that this unique call will create considerable interest amongst the Amateur Radio community worldwide as a result of the unique VB prefix. Notably, there are special QSL cards and participant certificates from all host cities for the event.
For more information about the special event stations, you can visit the World Cup 2026 Special Event Station website.
You can register to operate VB7F at the VB7F website. For questions, you can contact Hiroshi VA7LET.
