Community Code of Conduct

VECTOR is committed to ensuring all members feel welcome and safe in our community. Diversity is critical to the success of our community and to accomplish our mission and remain sustainable as an organization.

Our Values

VECTOR members aspire to:

  • Be friendly and welcoming
  • Be teachers, coaches and mentors
  • Be patient
  • Be respectful
  • Be responsible for our actions and to our organization

Our Pledge

In the interest of fostering an open and welcoming environment, VECTOR members pledge to make participation in our community a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, personal appearance, body shape, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, sexual identity and orientation, education, socio-economic status or level of experience.

We will model and employ behaviour that contributes to creating a positive environment including:

  • Using welcoming and inclusive language
  • Being respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences
  • Gracefully accepting constructive criticism
  • Focusing on what is best for the community and our mission
  • Showing empathy towards other community members and those we serve

As VECTOR members we will act with integrity and uphold the highest standards of ethical behaviour as we perform our internal and external roles and activities.

Scope

We recognize our pledge has implications extending far beyond the VECTOR community for we serve and interact with the public at large, our emergency management partners and many agencies. We recognize interaction involves all our dealings both in-person or via electronic means including radio communication, email, websites, and social media.

Conflict Resolution

If you observe someone violating our community code of conduct, you are encouraged to address the behavior directly with those involved. If you are unable to address or resolve the matter for any reason, or if the behavior is threatening or harassing, report it.

Reports should be directed to the VECTOR president using the email address [email protected] - all reports will be handled in confidence. If for any reason you feel uncomfortable reaching out to the president, contact any other member of the board of directors (https://vectorradio.ca/about/executive/) and ask them to intercede in confidence on your behalf.

Living Policy

This policy has been adopted by the VECTOR membership as a living policy to be revised as needed. The authoritative in-force policy statement will always be found at https://vectorradio.ca/about/community-code-of-conduct/.
